Description:

Sociology is a science that study social reality in a holistic manner. It explores and analyses the linkage between personal lives and the larger social forces of life. It studies the process of interrelationship among the various aspects of social life and social changes. It is the study of action, social behaviour, structure, belief, relations and issues of power etc. at the local, cross-cultural and global context. It is a crossroad for other disciplines in the social sciences. The programme will develop in the learner the necessary confidence in sociological skills and imagination to pursue acquisition of vocational skills to prepare them for varied employment opportunities.

 

In conjunction with the broader mission of the University to reach the unreached, the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Sociology will help the University in accomplishing its mission by achieving the following objectives:

  1. To expand the access to higher education.

  2. To maintain equity and justice in the field of higher education.

  3. To ensure the quality and excellence in the higher education

  4. The programme intends to help the learners get acquainted with the basic concepts in sociology.

  5. The programme will enable the learners to acquire the theoretical understanding.

  6. The program intends to enable the learners to explore and analyse the linkages between individual lives and the larger forces of society.

  7. The programme intends to make the learners critically understand the various problems in society.

  8. The programme will help the learners to attain comprehensive and critical understanding of Indian society in particular and north-eastern society in general.

  9. The program intends to develop in the learners the necessary confidence in sociological skills and imagination to pursue higher education and research.

Eligibility:

a. 10+2 or equivalent examination passed (in any stream, including Vocational Stream) from a Council/University recognized by UGC.

b. Diploma passed from Polytechnics in any branch.

 

A Learner who wants to pursue major in any course need to study elective of the respective course in 1st and 2nd semester. For example a learner who wants to opt for English or Assamese major have to study elective english or elective assamese as elective subjects in 1st and 2nd semester.

Copies of marksheets and pass certificate of qualifying examination (10+2/P.U./Diploma)
